HP party

Friends,

The highlight for July was clearly the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. What a party it was! Many thanks to all who came in costume and contributed to the excitement of the night. Turnout was beyond expectations and the book seems to have lived up to the hype. It was a pleasure to see so many people thrilled about a book. A special shout out to Tom Lichtman for his exemplary prop work – the entrance arch, the sorting hat and the giant spider! Please visit here for photos of the night (provided by Lee Krohn & Jeanne Rindell).

August is filled with great author events – including VT residents and Northshire friends Howard Frank Mosher (8/30) and Jeffrey Lent (8/18). Please check here for the entire list.

We are very happy to announce the return of Garrison Keillor to the Northshire on September 19th to celebrate the publication of his new Lake Wobegon novel, Pontoon. The event will be at Burr & Burton Academy gym with only bleacher seating available. This will be an entertaining night, so please buy tickets early. The $35 tickets are on sale now at the bookstore or online. Ticket holders are entitled to a free copy of Pontoon at the event.

Northshire Bookstore will be actively in conversation with customers in September to co-create what we are tentatively calling the Northshire Community. We are exploring ways to offer more of value to our core community of customers. We will be hosting one hour conversations daily between 9-10 am. We will be telephoning people soon to request participation. Or, if you're interested in helping us, please email me – coffee and baked goods on us. Thanks.

Be well,

Chris Morrow

Booksellers' Buzz

Mr. Pip

This month's bookseller favorite is Mr. Pip by Lloyd Jones, just published.

Erik Barnum, our sales floor manager says:

"Trust me, order this wonderful book now. A lovely and yet harrowing story that will charm and break your heart simultaneously, this brilliant novel is told from the point of view of a young girl whose island home is disrupted by civil war. Into her life comes Mr. Watts, an eccentric and mysterious man who introduces the children of the island to Victorian England through Charles Dickens' novel Great Expectations. This is a fiercely intelligent and thoughtful read that never fails to surprise and affect the reader."
