When Pacy and her family go to Taiwan to
celebrate Grandma's 60th birthday, she is convinced that even though her mom
says that they’ll have fun, Pacy will hate it. After all, moms are known for
their ideas of fun being a lot different than their children’s idea of fun!
When Pacy stars to really look at Taiwan she starts seeing herself in a new
light. Back home she is too “Chinese” and not fitting in with her white friends
and classmates, but here, she is too American. She cannot read the signs or
talk with her cousins! Can she ever find a place where she can fit in? A wonderful look about balancing the “two selves”
mixed in with the culture, memories and thoughts of Taiwan. Companion to The Year of the Dog
and The Year of the Rat. ~ Reviewed by Jeanette
