Lyrical prose. Rich slices of intimate narrative. Astonishing, original metaphor. If Raymond Chandler swapped gin for chamomile tea and devoted himself to stories of love, he might have written this splendid debut. The romantic novel just got fresh literary legs.

A tremendous offering from the guy that gave us Gatsby. Fitzgerald's ubiquity on syllabi and "Great Books" lists distracts from the simple fact that is on display throughout this ambitious novel-- He was a wonderful writer. His sentences are invitations to a world as vivid as your own. Accept them. You won't regret it.
