Aliens have made first contact but unfortunately it consisted of killing half the human population. The beauty of the novel is Weber gives us the background - why the Earth was picked for colonization in this manner. But the aliens did not count on human stubbornness or allies appearing out of the dark...vampires. I approached the vampires with trepidation but surprisingly they worked for me.

Bear's newest thriller is set on a colony seedship traveling to a distant star. A member of the crew finds himself pulled from "Dreamtime" with no memories and no name. Something is obviously wrong but can he figure out what in time.

Tiffany Aching finds herself facing death, loneliness, and an unknown evil; a lot to handle when you're 16 and a witch. The final adventure for Tiffany is much darker than the previous three books but it's impossible not to laugh out loud with the Nac Mac Feegles around.
