The story of two brothers and their determination to rid Ireland of British tyranny in the 1920s. Damien (Cillian Murphy) gives up his dream to practice medicine to join his brother, Teddy (Padraic Delaney), in the bitter struggle, but the two men eventually decide on different courses to free their country from the bloodshed and deprivation, resulting in a tragic conclusion.
