Most of the blurbs and word-of-mouth on Arthur Bradford's debut story collection, Dogwalker, use the word strange to describe these stories. So I took a crack at Dogwalker. And these stories are strange. A lot of the stories do feature at least one dog. One revolves around a very large slug. A second-hand mattress drives the action in another. But it is Bradford's warm and off-beat sense of humor that gives this collection its irresistible vibe. Although the stories aren't linked by content, there is a narrative consistency among them that floats the reader from story to story. And you just keep turning the pages wondering what strange thing Bradford will float your way next. ~ Reviewed by Stan Hynds

In an illuminating examination of the Salem Witch Trials of 1691, Hill places the horrifying events in a larger context of mass hysteria and intolerance. She tries to understand the motives of the accusers and those who conducted the trials. She humanizes them as well as those who suffered from the accusations, placing the events in social, political and religious context. An outstanding attempt to explain and understand this dreadful episode in early American history. ~ Reviewed by Louise Jones
