Poems that meander like the mind, with bright, vivid moments of epiphany. Doty's work both encapsulates and breaks away from narrative. A good place to start if you love prose, but haven't explored poetry yet. ~ Reviewed by Parke Haskell

Even though it’s labeled as the sequel to Howl’s Moving Castle, Howl, Sophie, and Calcifer are only supporting characters. As much as I would have loved a direct continuation of their story I almost preferred this style of presentation better; this way the reader can fill in for themselves what they think Howl and Sophie are doing in their everyday lives. House of Many Ways is so much fun itself that it would work well as a standalone too. With a library full of hidden answers, a house that can lead almost anywhere (including the past), an evil Lubbock, a bit of magic, and a mysterious “Elfgift,” Jones offers up a grand adventure, great for all ages! ~ Reviewed by Misha D'Andrea

Johnson has written and assembled some incredibly unique short stories, each one offering up a plethora of emotion. Each short story offered up something fresh and new, but not always pleasant. All deal with heavy subject matter, some of which is raw and unsettling. I would not recommend this to someone looking for a quick, light read. However, to someone looking for deeper, more thought provoking material, Fortune Smiles will offer up a treasure chest of wealth. ~ Reviewed by Misha D'Andrea
